Business is booming… for cybercriminals
Every 18 minutes an Australian becomes the victim of a cybercrime, and it’s only getting worse. The risk of cybercriminals ever being caught is low and the volume of cybercrime so high its overwhelming law enforcement’s capacity to respond. This makes cybercrime highly attractive and has lead to the rise of ‘crime-as-a-service’ (the selling and support of ready-to-use cybercrime software). Now anybody anywhere can become a cybercriminal.
Most Australian businesses are unaware and unprepared for the very real threat posed by cybercrime, believing that it’s a big corporate and government problem.
Businesses big and small are targets for cybercriminals
Australia’s wealth, use of technology, access of social media, active online banking and shopping make it an attractive target for cybercriminals. So if you’re not serious about your businesses cyber security consider these figures from the Australian government:
- 43% of cybercrime targets smaller businesses; and
- 60% of small businesses, that experience a significant cybercrime event, go out of business within six months.
Cybercriminals know smaller businesses don’t have the levels of cyber security bigger businesses have. Unsurprisingly this makes them targets.
Are You Cyber Insurance Ready?
Cyber insurance is not automatically given by insurers.
Like property insurance you’re assessed on the level of security you have in place. Insurers won’t provide cover for your home unless you have: locks on your doors and windows; smoke detectors; and they may require a burglar alarm.
Cyber insurers follow the same assessment processes.
By completing and emailing the following questionnaire, you will provide us with enough information to assess if your organisation is cyber insurance ready.
